About Maureen

Maureen Ann Richards KostalnickMaureen Ann Richards Kostalnick grew up in the 40s and 50s in Avon, Ohio.

Growing up was tough for Maureen as a result, unbeknownst to her as a child, of her mothers sexual assalt, that ruined her mother’s reputation, ostracized her in the eyes of the community and took a terrible toll on her family.  Maureen’s book, The Butternut Tree, is based on Maureen’s childhood experiences.

Maureen married her high school sweetheart, Chuck, and now lives in California in the East Bay region of the San Francisco Bay Area. She has dedicated her life to her family, and to working with multi-handicapped children as a Sign Language Interpreter for the Deaf. Maureen is widely recognized as an advocate for children with disabilities and those children who are forgotten.
